SHERMAN CITY COUNCIL F: Jason Sofey, David Plyler (Mayor), Terrence Steele B: Charles Brown Sr., Pam Howeth, Kevin Couch, Shawn Teamann The year 2017 is an incredibly exciting time to find yourself in Sherman, Texas. You won’t find many other municipalities in the Lone Star State that boast the combination of deep history, booming economy, and solid leadership that Sherman can claim. In fact, this current era may very well be the most prosperous in our town’s entire history. I know from a city infrastructure standpoint it certainly is. Sherman is blessed with some of the most abundant drinking water resources of any city in the state. And the expansion of our Lake Texoma water treatment plant has our city positioned to capitalize on that resource like never before. The expansion will double our capacity to create clean drinking water, thereby enabling Sherman as a clean water exporter for our entire region. In fact, we believe that the water treatment expansion could even end up paying for itself through those efforts. Imagine that; a $20 million infrastructure project for the good of our citizens for a fraction of the price. It has the potential to really change the future of our city. And that’s one example among dozens-in-progress around our city right now. From our work to expand Loy Lake Road through Sherman’s main shopping center, to our first new water tower in two decades being built in a growing part of town, to the new Sherman Crossroads project that will anchor Sherman’s south side for years to come; it seems like wherever you look, progress is being made to cement Sherman’s status as one Texas’s top towns. On the private side of things, meanwhile, it’s incredible to look at the transformation that has happened in our historic downtown in recent years. Dozens of exquisite old buildings have been revamped and renewed, and new businesses are popping up weekly. With the help of the city’s downtown incentive programs – which are among the most innovative you’ll find anywhere – downtown has once again become the heart of our city. So thank you for picking up this copy of Sherman Magazine to find out a little bit more about what makes Sherman such a great place to visit, stay, or call home. We’re awfully proud of our city, and we’re so happy you’re here to share it with us.
